How To Handle

How to Handle, navigates you into observations of hands, textile, and weaving tools, to unravel hands-on transactions of knowledge. The thesis interweaves theory and practice to question and address the hand-carried knowledge of weaving. The reader is guided through interactions, of a weaving session, a family loom, a Facebook weaving group and a museum visit - written on coloured paper. Complemented by the method of literature study the thesis aims to uncover and understand the context of hands from a historical feminist perspective.

The thesis is shaped into an a5-sized pocket book addressing the term hand-carried knowledge - meaning knowledge your hands carry. The perspective of the thesis is shaped by questioning how we acquire knowledge through connecting with fellow weavers, both experienced and not.

In the back of the book, you find drawings, screenshots and instructional images referred to in the text. How to Handle is written from a Norwegian perspective by textile practitioner Ingeborg Kvalnes during her master's degree in Critical Fashion Practices at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
